Online Casino Gambling May Become Legal in Vietnam
11 May 2024
Online casino gambling has become hugely popular in Vietnam over the past year. The Vietnamese government has recently stated that new recommendations for regulating online casino firms in Vietnam are due before the end of the year. The Vietnamese government has been considering the regulation of online casino sites for the past year and they have asked the Ministry of Post and Telematics who are in charge of preparing the recommendations, to wrap up its research as soon as possible. The Vietnamese government has refused to be influenced by China's stance on online casino gambling and has admitted that gambling at online casino sites is a legitimate form of entertainment.
Broadband Internet, recently introduced to some parts of the country, has helped to make online casino gambling more accessible for thousands of people. Currently 8 million Vietnamese, or 10% of the country's population use the Internet regularly, including online casino gambling. Online casino gambling has become very popular here as a good and easily accessible form of entertainment, like in many other Asian countries.
China however is not interested in legalizing online casino gambling. They have no plans to welcome the online casino industry into their country. The Chinese government has recently created a special legislation department dedicated to finding and prosecuting online casino operators that target Chinese online casino players. It is interesting to see how China will not seem to budge from its standpoint, while other Asian countries such as Vietnam and Japan are rapidly warming to the online casino community.
